Franca Fay Zanetti

Franca Fay is a performance and video artist. In her process she adapts and appropriates technical knowledge as a form of self empowerment and reflects on how she uses and consumes media and technology. In her work she studies relationships between body and technology, between humans, performers and audiences. Franca's process includes research in popular culture and the history of patriarchy; working with movement, video, sound; being in dialogue with her surroundings; and writing texts. As a result she is deconstructing and reengineering romance and feelings.

Floating somewhere in the universe between 2009 and 2023 she talks about relationships, growing up, gender, love and romance. Franca works with love as a practice and creates an aesthetic she calls new romance, while she questions her surrounding societies romantic vocabulary and values.

The performance and video work „loveletters/monologue of a mother, lover, daughter or just your personal chair“ focused on constructing emotions and engineering romance through loveletters. The performers act as themselves while also embodying rehearsed roles, creating a blend of personal expression and theatricality. Images are being created live and the process of staging becomes visible for the audience.
